City View Sunday School & Youth Page

At City View United Church, we welcome children and youth as full participants in our community of faith. We celebrate the gifts that children and youth share with us and we strive to create a place where everyone whatever their age, ability, background, or life experience will feel at home here. Because different ages have different interests and needs, we offer programs specifically geared to different age groups.

Children

We have two children’s groups each Sunday—one for pre-school and kindergarten-age children and one for children in Grades 1-6.

We create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for pre-school and kindergarten-age children through stories, music, play time, games, cooking, and crafts.

Children in Grades 1-6 participate in a workshop based program that uses a variety of hands-on learning activities—games, computers, cooking, music, videos, science, art, and storytelling—to encounter the stories of our faith tradition. This activity-based program engages all the senses and all styles of learning.

Themes for the fall children’s program include a unit on Moses—the story of how Moses leads the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt—and a 5-week focus on women of faith in the Bible.

Our nursery provides safe, supervised space for infants and toddlers during worship on Sunday mornings.

Family Fun

The children of the Sunday School and their families will gather at the church on February 25th for an afternoon of fun and a potluck supper.

If the weather complies we will plan on sliding so bring your sliding equipment and dont forget helmets.  In case of inclement weather there will be alternative activities at the church.  For more information and registration contact Margie Ann at macdonald.margieann@gmail.com or phone the office at 613-224-1021.

Where to Find Us On Sunday Morning

Each Sunday we gather in worship together as a whole church family at 10:30.   After opening hymns, prayers, and a childrens conversation time, children and youth are invited to go to their programs.  Children meet each Sunday in the childrens program wing of our church (down stairs from the  Canter Blvd. entrance to the building lower level, south west side of the church). Children pre-school and kindergarten-age in the Sunshine Room for a program of stories, crafts, and playtime. Children in grades 1-6 meet in the Terrace Room.

Youth meet in the two youth rooms beside the Friendship Room.  (The Friendship Room is the lower level, northwest side of the building, near the entrance that opens onto the main parking lot. The youth rooms are on the right hand side of the hall as you enter it).

The nursery is located on the upper level near the sanctuary (off the hallway where the church offices are located).

Youth at City View

On Sunday mornings, youth meet in two separate groups, one group for Grades 7-9 and another group for Grades 10 and up.  Youth activities include retreats (we recently had an exchange visit with Mountainside United Church in Montreal) as well as Sunday morning program activities and special events.

Our City View Youth Band (made up of musicians at any age or stage, including some honorary youth) is a regular participant in Sunday morning worship.

When a baby or young child is baptized, adults promise to nurture and support the children in their care and to help them to grow in their faith.  As a congregation, we also promise to support and care for these young ones.  These young men and woman have decided for themselves to enter into full adult membership in this congregation.  Some of them are doing so by confirming the promises that were made on their behalf at baptism.  Some are doing so by baptism and profession of faith.  And so we welcome them and affirm their decision.
