NEW BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY (as of February 26, 2006)

The Purpose Driven Life:

Written by Rick Warren in 2002, this soon became one of the most widely read books in modern times. Rick Warren is the founding pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, one of America's largest and best known churches. Ask Neil or Whit their opinions on Rick Warren.

The book is a blueprint for Christian living in the 21st century ..... a lifestyle based on God's eternal purposes, not cultural values. Presented in forty chapters representing a commitment of forty days, it challenges the conventional definitions of worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry and evangelism. Rick Warren offers distilled wisdom on the essence of what life is all about.

After browsing through this book you will probably want to own your own copy!

The Family Story Bible:

Another book you will surely want to buy if there are children or grandchildren in your home. Written by Ralph Milton, this book offers a fresh, contemporary perspective on the Bible. This book of Bible stories has been selected by other United Churches to present to Sunday School students graduating from grade three. The reading of this book to preschoolers and older children insures that they will grow up with a knowledge of Judeo-Christian history.

The Lord Is My Shepherd

Harold Kushner (author of "When bad Things Happen To Good People") draws on over forty years of his own thinking and that of other biblical scholars to demonstrate how this psalm offers a guide to living in the world with faith and courage. It can help us to cope with every aspect of life, from mundane jealousies to the death of a loved one to unimaginable tragedies of global proportions.

Alexander's Journey:

More than ten years ago The Brotherhood of Anglican Churchmen took on a project to devise a curriculum on world religions that could be presented in our public schools at the grade three level. Helen Prince authored this curriculum, which is presented in three books: the storybook, the student workbook and the teacher's manual. Here is a wonderful resource for anyone who wants to instruct children on other faiths.

A New Christianity For A New World:

Written by John Shelby Spong, this book tries to explain why traditional faith is dying and how new faith is being born. His knowledgeable concern for the future of Christianity offers strength, hope and theological solutions. - donated by Sheila Smith

Goodbye My Friend:

A booklet that deals with the death of a pet. Appropriate for children and adults alike. - donated by Shirley Brickell

Hope Springs Trilogy:

A new series written by Lynne Hinton is reminiscent of Jan Karon's Mitford series.

The Friendship Cake is the first book:

When five women from the Hope Springs Community Church in North Carolina form a committee to create a church cookbook, they embark on a project much more meaningful than they could have ever imagined. As novice pastor Charlotte Stewart, no-nonsense Margaret Peele, maverick Louise Fisher, steadfast Jessie Jenkins, and busybody Beatrice Newgarden meet to share recipes, they begin to open their lives and hearts as well.

Hope Springs and Forever Friends are books two and three of this trilogy,

Abram's Daughters Trilogy:

Another trilogy, this one, written by Beverly Lewis unveils the layers of deeply rooted Amish tradition as seen through the eyes of Leah and Sadie Ebersol, two courting age daughters who are introduced in the first book "The Covenant".

Their story is continued in the sequels, "The Betrayal" and "The Sacrifice".
